G'HOST IN THE KITCHEN

G'Host in the Kitchen

Why G'Host in the Kitchen?
Ghost: as if there were a ghost in your kitchen and we entertained you and your guests and then we just disappeared,  as if no one was there.

You might consider us a ghostchefs as one might a ghostwriter. We will do the work, and you will take the credit.

G'Host: Good Host. Who wouldn't want to be a good host? We will do that for you.

What is a Chef's Table?
A chef's table is a table located in the kitchen of a restaurant, reserved for VIPs and special guests. Patrons are served a themed tasting menu prepared and served by the head chef.

Making reservations to sit at a chef's table typically is necessary for several reasons: there is only one of these tables and it may already be reserved on any given day for a special occasion. The chef also needs to make sure his or her schedule is organized so that he or she has time to talk with the dinner party.

Chefs usually prepare special menus for diners who  reserve the kitchen table.

Guests at a chef's table typically receive a lot of attention from restaurant staff. Not only does the head chef communicate with guests and offer them  the day's freshest menu choices, but the head sommelier, or wine steward, will usually make several expert suggestions of wines from which to choose.

Many restaurants also have a minimum capacity for guests who wish to sit at  the chef's table. For instance, most restaurants will not reserve these tables for less than a group of five people if the table seats only seven guests plus the head chef.

Most chef's tables do not seat more than eight people since adequate kitchen space for preparing, cooking, plating, and serving food usually is needed.  People get to know the chef a little better and often recount to others their experiences at a chef's table.

about chef dean
Working with food has been a lifelong pleasure for Chef Dean. His childhood appreciation for food led to an apprenticeship in Niagara-on-the-Lake when he was a youth. Since then Chef Dean has been working toward his goal of  becoming a Certified Chef de Cuisine.

Asked what drives him, he says simply that he “just loves foods, loves the business.” But those who know him say it’s the thrill of making something from nothing.

Chef Dean is a perfectionist driven to impress his guests by creating something beautiful with food that blows them away! “Being a chef is an art where you learn something new every day.”

Sharing knowledge is also important to Chef Dean. For many years he has been involved in Skills Canada and Skills Ontario as a Judge and Mentor, and he was the President of the Waterloo Branch of the Canadian Culinary Federation.

Now as a Culinary Instructor at Top Toques Institute of Culinary Excellence, Chef Dean continues to develop new menus while building his professional career. His emphasis remains on quality in the people he works with and in the food he serves.
